Anna Maria Horner, Hand Quilted, On a Whim Quilt

Welcome!  I'm pleased to have finished another hand quilted project.  This is a made with a pattern from Thimble Blossoms - one I have made before - called On A Whim.

AMH On a Whim Quilt, Hand Quilted

The rainbow of shades are from the Anna Maria Horner line, True Colors.  I had a large piece of fabric from her older Loulouthi line which I used for the borders.  The white background pieces are simply a white sheet from Ikea.

The backing is my favourite...VOILE!  So soft and cuddly.  The pieces are ones I have collected from Anna Maria Horner and from Tula Pink.  And, as I have mentioned, the quilt is completely hand quilted.  I used a rainbow of threads that I had, DMC perle cottons in size 8 and Aurifil cottons in size 12.  It's the squishiest and snuggliest.

Katagami Bricks Quilt

It's been so long I'm kind of blanking at the moment as to how I do this.  How do I put pictures in, again? :)

Here is an actual finish after 7 months!  A quilt for a teenaged nephew.  Parson Gray can be relied upon to produce manly but elegant fabrics perfect for boy quilts.  The latest line, Katagami, is what I used for this twin sized quilt.  Scroll down for quilt stats!

QUILT STATS:

Dimensions: 70" by 90"
Fabrics: Katagami by Parson Gray for FreeSpirit
Backing: Kona cotton solid in Navy
Thread: Aurifil 28 wt in Grey (for the top) and Navy for the back.  (Yes, it worked for machine quilting!  I wasn't sure whether this thicker thread would work, I usually use a 50 wt, but it gives a nice bold stitch line a bit reminiscent of sashiko.  A good fit with these Japanese inspired fabrics!)
Batting: Warm and Natural

Happy Canada Day!

Maple Leaf Quilt

Happy Canada Day from our Canadian cabin in the woods, all my crazy Canuck kids and my latest Canada inspired quilt.

I made this with a maple leaf quilt block pattern that finished at 9" square, a bundle of fat eighths of Crazy for Red by Minick & Simpson, a few fat quarters from Midwinter Reds (also Minick & Simpson) and some red French General pieces.

It finished at about 63" square and I bound it with Kona cotton solid in Chinese Red.  The quilting I did on my home machine using Aurifil 50 wt in 2325, which blended nicely with the taupes in this colour palette.

Yes, indeed, more scrappiness, more economy blocks, more baby quilts.  I have A LOT of scraps I am working on making into something prettier and more useful than a rubbermaid tote full of fabric pieces - however lovely those individual pieces may be.  These are my two latest projects with the scraps!  And they are both for sale in my shop!

Blogger's Quilt Festival ~ Spring 2015

Farmer's Wife Quilt

Welcome to my entry in this Spring 2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival.  (And please excuse the far from Spring-y photo!  This quilt was photographed and gifted at Christmas time.)

Farmer's Wife Quilt

All the fabrics in this king size quilt are from Kansas Troubles by Moda and I used the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt book.  I made a few tweaks, adding setting squares and triangles to make the blocks larger, and so setting alternating blocks on point.

Farmer's Wife Quilt

This quilt was made as a gift for my mother and father and took me about 3 years! I really enjoyed putting the blocks together, it was like an interesting puzzle every time. However, I tend to like chain piecing and letting my mind wander, so this took me a long time to do and I didn't alway choose to do it as it was a brain bender and not the meditative calm of chain piecing and simple patterns. (I quilt to relax!)

Farmer's Wife Quilt

Then, I quilted this myself on my home machine!  Here is a link to my original post about this quilt if you would like more information.  Enjoy all the rest of the entries in the Blogger's Quilt Festival!  And please consider casting a vote for me here, in the Large Quilts Category!
