A Happy Go Lucky Baby Quilt

Happy Go Lucky Baby Quilt

Here is a little baby quilt finished today! Doesn't it just make you feel Happy (and a little go Lucky, too, maybe?). I'm loving the fresh colours. I went a little improvisational, beginning with a charm pack of Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie and Camille and a plan to make stars... then adding a couple of pinwheels... then making tiny pinwheels with the scraps from the stars... et voilĂ !

I decided to change things up and attempt curved corners on this one. I actually decided this AFTER I made the straight binding, and then realized my mistake AFTER I cut the corners off! Thankfully I had enough fabric to make another length of binding, this time bias. Whew! Although wrapping my head around the method was more than my pea brain could bear, despite the excellent instructions found here at Jona's wonderful blog, Stop Staring and Start Sewing! Well, I managed it with a just a couple of cluster cusses. (PSA: DON'T iron after you've drawn all your lines with a Frixion pen... DOH!)  The binding fabric is from Jenean Morrison's line Silent Cinema.

I quilted 1/4 inch from the seams with white Aurifil in 50 wt. I finished it off with a little hand quilting on the borders, also using my growing collection of Aurifil (this time in a 12 wt.)... aaaaah, bliss. And here she is!

Designer Star Baby Girl Quilt

Here is a little baby girl quilt I finished on the weekend!  I love it.  It's for a little girl about to be born whose nursery is decorated in white, tan and teal.

You can find the pattern and instructions to size it all the way from a mini to a king size on the designer's website, called May Chappell.  The pattern is called Designer Star.  I actually won the pattern from her in a giveaway she recently hosted, so thanks so much, Lee! This one finishes at 37" by 43". I simply adjusted the sashing sizes to make it rectangular rather than square as in the pattern.

The fabrics I used are from several different designers. The teal with the bird and bees print is from Tula Pink, the teal crosses is from Denyse Schmidt's Chicopee line, the brown flowers are from Jenean Morrison and the little teal and brown flowers are from a fabric called Mariposa by Laura Berringer. The background is Kona Ivory and the thread used for the entire quilt is Aurifil 50 wt, in colour 2000, also an ivory.

American Jane 9 Patch Baby Quilt

Another little baby quilt!  I love doing these little projects to play with some favourite fabrics and practice some skills.

This time, I worked on my hand quilting skills.  Again.  Because it is soooo much fun!

I used several colours of DMC perle cotton in size 8, and an Aurifil in size 12 to hand quilt around all the 9 patches.  I machine quilted first, using Aurifil 50 wt. in the ditch, just to give it some strength, and then sat all comfy-like in my chair, or outside, or where ever I wanted to be, and stitched happily.

The fabrics are all American Jane, from a charm pack of ABC 123, and some yardage of the tossed toys on the back, and the lovely print of flowers on a blue background for the binding.

The batting is Warm & Natural and the dimensions are a little 27" x 32".
